Pharmacies are where caregivers can be connected to the resources they need to care for loved ones. In fact, according to AARP — the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering Americans 50 and older to choose how they live as they age — pharmacists rank higher than doctors as the number-one resource consumers call or visit as they’re thrust into a caregiving role. This all begs to reason that independent pharmacies represent a fundamental link to the care a caregiver is providing. Cardinal Health representative Kim Stokell, from our Consumer Health Division, sits down with Greg Klem, vice president of Strategic Marketing and Partnerships, and Reema Jweied-Guegel, director, Enterprise Strategic Relationships, AARP, to chat about opportunities for independent pharmacies to deliver resources to their patients and customers in this steadfastly-growing caregiving space. Together, Greg and Reema talk about AARP’s 2023 report, Valuing the Invaluable, where they profile “who” caregivers “are,” today and the challenges they face. The report also looks at recent developments, promising federal and state policies that support family caregivers, and promising practices in the public and private sectors. Listen in as Greg and Reema share and cite best practices and tips for independent pharmacies to connect with — and understand — today’s caregiver concerns and behaviors, i.e., what they’re buying, their needs, and how to deliver on those needs.

Monday Nov 20, 2023
A few years back, I found myself grappling with an unforeseen identity shift. After three years of passionately producing the Pharmacist Diaries Podcast, what began as a simple podcast had morphed into a promising brand, a realisation that sent me spiraling into an entrepreneurial mindset. This pivotal transition wasn't easy, but it was necessary to fully embrace my potential as a business owner. I was no longer just a pharmacist with a podcast, but an entrepreneur with a brand that could impact lives beyond content creation. Join me in this riveting episode as Yasir Sacranie, CEO of Micropharm, and I candidly delve into our personal journeys of transforming from content creators to business owners. We unravel the intricate process of starting small, growing steadily, and the crucial role of providing value through products and services. We share insights into the practical aspects of podcasting, discussing the shift from audio to video and the crucial decisions we had to make. And as the saying goes, "No pain, no gain." We touch on the challenges of juggling multiple roles, contemplate reducing work hours to focus more on our passion projects, and stress the importance of believing in the brand you're building. This is more than just a conversation; it’s a revelation of our entrepreneurial journey. Tune in, and let's explore this together!SUPPORT THE PODCAST:As I continue to grow and evolve this podcast, I am committed to bringing you inspiring and empowering content. On the Record..PBM “Partnerships”: What Pharmacies Need PBMs to Know | The PUTTcast
Saturday Nov 18, 2023
Saturday Nov 18, 2023
The PBM Express Scripts recently asked to convene an independent pharmacy advisory group to determine how PBMs could be better “partners” with independent pharmacies - PUTT responded with a comprehensive letter outlining many of the issues pharmacies confront in their daily dealings with PBM “partnerships”... this month, the PUTTcast is taking that conversation a step further.
Join Monique Whitney, PUTT President Deborah Keaveny, and special guest pharmacy owners EpicRx CEO Brian Hose, and MPA past President Jerry Callahan as they take a deep dive into pharmacy/PBM business relationships, including how they affect:
drug pricing;
patient care;
all forms of pharmacy including the chains, and;
why FTC and legislative intervention is critical to addressing many of the issues.
Because, to quote PUTT President Deborah Keaveny, “no pharmacy can provide quality patient care if it cannot generate sufficient revenue to conduct its daily operations.”

TWIRx | Veterinarian Pharmacists / Mindfullness & the Placebo Effect

Happy Pharmacy Friday
This Week In Pharmacy, our first interview is with Alexandria Arnett Pharm. D Candidate (class of 2025) ACVP Student Pharmacist Board Member
Thank you Framework LTC for supporting our Pharmacists! Tune in to their monthly podcast at https://frameworkltc.com/podcast
Our second interview,
Dr. Nhu Truong, PharmD
Dr. Nhu Truong is a Functional Medicine/Holistic Practitioner, an Admission Advisor for the STORRIE Institute, and a concierge for the Burn Out to All Out team. With 13 years of experience as a Clinical Pharmacist in Corporate America, she understands the challenges of being a super-working mom and an overachieving clinician and entrepreneur, which took a toll on her health.
Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment, cultivating self-awareness, and embracing a non-judgmental attitude. It's a powerful tool that can help you navigate the complexities of your career with grace and resilience. Here's how:
Stress Reduction: Mindfulness techniques can reduce stress levels, helping you stay calm and composed even in high-pressure situations.
Enhanced Focus: By training your mind to be present, you can improve your concentration and productivity.
Improved Decision-Making: Mindfulness allows you to make better decisions by fostering clarity and reducing the influence of impulsive reactions.
Increased Creativity: Embracing mindfulness can unlock your creative potential, enabling you to find innovative solutions to challenges.
Work-Life Balance: Achieving a balance between your career and personal life becomes more attainable as mindfulness helps you set boundaries and prioritize self-care.
Dr. Luana Colloca, a physician-scientist at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, calls this our “inner pharmacy.” Just expecting to feel better can cause the release of these substances.
“Our mindset is so critical,” Colloca says, “because our thoughts are not independent from our bodies’ responses.”
The placebo effect can be powerful. It can help with pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, or nausea. But our inner pharmacy can’t treat everything. It can’t, for instance, make tumors go away, lower your cholesterol, or get rid of infections.
