A strong desire to help people has always drawn Nawshin Ahmed toward health related careers. That desire is what attracted her to ACPHS with thoughts of becoming a pharmacist. But not long into her academic career, Ahmed began to realize that pharmacy was not going to be her career destination. With advice from her thoughtful, knowledgeable and caring professors, Ahmed began to switch her focus toward the field of Public Health. After her 2016 graduation from ACPHS, she advanced to receive a master's in Public Health from the University at Albany, and a master's in Business Administration from Stony Brook University. Her strong desire to help people is now actualized through her work with government and community leaders in shaping health policies through the Pew Charitable Trusts' Substance Use Prevention & Treatment Initiative. She provides technical assistance to states seeking to improve access to treatment for opioid use disorder and to reduce the number of overdose deaths. Nawshin Ahmed’s experiences give her a great perspective on the journey from higher education to career. She tells current and prospective ACPHS students they should know that there are many paths available to them. She also says students should be open to exploring new options and shouldn’t be afraid to make mistakes along the way.

The Secret Lives of Pharmacists | Dr. First
Monday Dec 26, 2022
Monday Dec 26, 2022
Pharmacists are not who you think they are. Tell someone you’re a pharmacist, and they will likely picture you behind a busy counter filling prescriptions. They may not even ask questions about your role because people know what pharmacists do. Or at least, they think they do.Todd Eury, CEO of the Pharmacy Podcast Network and Heidi Polek, RPh., with DrFirst talk about the transforming roles of pharmacists.
When I say, “I’m a pharmacist,” to someone I’ve just met, I hope it will spark some curiosity. I want it to be a conversation starter that begins with them imagining that maybe I’m a clinical pharmacist…or a research pharmacist…or a veterinary pharmacist…or any of the more than 100 career paths a pharmacist can take.
Although it’s not well known to those outside the profession, pharmacists have many career options beyond filling prescriptions. We graduated from rigorous pharmacy programs and completed both federal and state licensure examinations, just like lawyers who sit for the bar exam. We became pharmacists to make a difference in healthcare and, most often, for patient care. We’re medication experts, each in our own right. And, just like medical doctors, pharmacists play specialized roles, with many of us completing post-graduate residencies.
You may be surprised to learn we work in hospitals, doctor offices, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, law offices, medical research facilities, federal government agencies, health technology companies, and also, yes—pharmacies.

From safety issues to retaliatory tactics against their own employees, our nation's largest chain pharmacies are steadily dropping in reputation, putting their pharmacists and pharmacy staff in the increasingly precarious position of good people trapped in an awful situation.
Listen in as PUTTcast host Monique Whitney speaks with Anais Webster Mennuti and Kim Kessler from the independent documentary that's blowing the lid off America's pharmacy problems: "Would You Like Shots with That?". It's an ear-opening discussion that brings atrocities out in the open, humanizes what really goes on behind chain pharmacy counters, and makes the case for why you should care - because at the end of the day, we are all patients.

I had so much fun recording this episode with my colleague, coach, mentor, and friend Dr. Christina Fontana. We had recorded another episode a while back when she was using her maiden last name, Tarantola. From questioning our beliefs, to being raw and vulnerable, to demonstrating how to move and shake up your energetic blocks with Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) & tapping - we go really deep into busting some myths and narratives that we tell ourselves on the daily. One key takeaway here is to follow your desire and lead with your heart, even if that means taking the road less traveled! But you don’t need to go at it alone, it’s allowed to be easy! So give yourself permission and get help from coaches like Christina. Dr. Christina Fontana, PharmD, CHC, CHt, AKA The Pharmacist Coach®️, is a rapid transformation coach, hypnotherapist, pharmacist, and 5-time author. Her most recent book “Moving Beyond the Counter” is a collaboration that showcased the stories of 20 pharmacists, including myself, and I am so grateful to Christina for bringing us together in this way and forming this brilliant community that is giving permission for others to shine. We are also having a book signing next week on November 12 in Mars, PA, and I personally can’t wait! Dr. Christina helps pharmacist entrepreneurs release subconscious blocks so you can own your brilliance and scale their profitable healing businesses. She blends hypnotherapy, science-based transformation, and intuitive coaching to help you simplify and scale your heart-centered business with more ease and flow. For the last 10 years, Dr. Christina has been providing uplifting, transformational content through her YouTube videos, books, courses, programs, and retreats to help women reconnect to their inner light to go from burnt out pharmacist to lit up full-time entrepreneurs! I cannot say enough in this brief intro about how grateful I am for my personal and professional relationship that we have developed together over the years with Dr. Christina, so without further ado I’ll let this episode do the talking. Good News, You Can Have A Profitable Front End | Pharmacy Crossroads
Sunday Dec 04, 2022
Sunday Dec 04, 2022
One proven way for pharmacy owners to boost sales, improve profits and generate word of mouth recommendations is by operating an attractive and well merchandized front-end. But finding products that people want at prices that allow you to sell them profitably has been a major problem up until now. I say “has been” because now MatchSquare has combined the resources of an experienced independent pharmacy front end buyer with the technology and buying power of a company necessary to solve this age old problem.
In this episode Bruce Kneeland talks with Johny Kello, CEO of MatchSquare and co-founder of MatchRx and Renee Zawaideh, front-end manager of a six store chain and Lead Merchandizer of MatchSquare. These two experienced managers tell how MatchRx, with 7,000 independent pharmacy customers has built a brand new company that will make, in an organized and curated manner, tens of thousands of front-end items that can be bought in appropriate quantities and attractive prices sold in an independent pharmacy.
Here's hoping you’ll learn something that will help you do more and be better.

LIVE DEMO: Babson Diagnostics Blood Testing Ecosystem
Friday Dec 02, 2022
Friday Dec 02, 2022
Community pharmacists are often overlooked for the vital roles they play in our health care system. But in the public health emergency of the last 2 years, community pharmacies have come out of the shadows to lead the fight against COVID-19. Community pharmacies became coronavirus test sites early in the pandemic, at a time when the country was short on testing and there were long lines at drive-through testing sites. Later, they led the campaign to protect Americans by inoculating millions. Pharmacies are ready to play bigger roles in our healthcare system and it starts with blood testing.
Assess overall patient wellness
