Back to School Marketing | Pharmacy Marketing Simplified
Monday Aug 24, 2020
Monday Aug 24, 2020
September is just around the corner, and Labor Day cookouts are mere days away. While this celebration marks the relative end of the summer, for the kids in your life, it also means it’s time to go back to school.
Emotions are high this time of year. Kids want to make a good impression, sporting the latest fashions and newest gear to impress their friends. Their parents, in turn, want to make sure they’re prepared with enough food and the right supplies to make it through their day.
Pharmacy Owners should be equally energized. Back-to-school season is a big deal in this country: In previous years, retailers saw roughly $828 billion in sales during the back-to-school season. Right now the only retail holiday bringing in more cash in the U.S. is the so-called “winter holiday” where holly jolly gift-giving frenzies dominate buying patterns.
So when does this holiday officially start? Some brands begin their marketing campaigns as early as July, not long after those Independence Day fireworks fizzle out. That’s partly because there’s no standard school start date in the U.S. Some districts in Arizona, for example, begin as early as mid July. Students in Boston, however, won’t be boarding their school buses until early September.

A recent study suggests that SGLT2 drugs - now shown to dramatically improve cardiovascular and renal outcomes in a wide variety of patients - have a higher incidence of euglycemic DKA than previously thought. If pharmacists see more of this ADR, how do we treat appropriately - especially when a patient's sugars may not be very high?

Public Health Policy around 'a new world' - we spend some time on this with so many different aspects of policy around the world that it is hard to generally discuss: but we can talked about why policies alone are not a perfect solution (if people feel they are forced to do something they don't believe in)

Tech Missing From the Drug Supply Chain | FutureDose.tech
Thursday Aug 13, 2020
Thursday Aug 13, 2020
One side effect of public scrutiny of rising drug prices has been greater visibility into the uniquely complex pharmaceutical supply chain. Previously little known distributors and middlemen now regularly receive attention, highlighting how the line between drugmaker and patient is rarely straight.
There are billions of Pills and vials are routed to hospitals and pharmacies by wholesalers like McKesson and AmerisourceBergen but what tech is missing between wholesalers & automation tech which could help fill in the gap of consumption predictability? In just one possible iteration, pharmacies buy medicines, are reimbursed by insurers, which in turn work with or their own pharmacy benefit managers in negotiations with drugmakers.
Often, supply chain issues come down to differences in processes or systems. A single drug or treatment may be administered to hundreds of hospitals through distributors, but with more than 5,000 such healthcare facilities in the U.S. alone, it can be tough to keep track of and meet each buyer’s requirements.
Listen in on this conversation between David Berkowitz, PharmD & Kent Bridgeman, PharmDas they dig deeper into the missing links between drug supply and APIs; application programming interface, is a computing interface which defines interactions between multiple software intermediaries.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) has signed three innovative PBM reform bills into law. HB 946 and SB 313 require the reporting of drugs paid 10 percent above and 10 percent below National Average Drug Acquisition Cost every four months, prohibit PBMs from tying a pharmacy’s drug reimbursement to a patient’s health outcomes, and require PBMs to offer drug coverage plans that do not include spread pricing and plans that allow plan sponsors to receive 100 percent of rebates negotiated by PBMs.
HB 918 strengthens existing anti-steering provisions and the Pharmacy Audit Bill of Rights. Congratulations to the Georgia Pharmacy Association and all pharmacy advocates for these wins which will protect pharmacies, patients, and payers.
