The Next Phase of Pharmacogenomics & the Pharmacist | PGX for Pharmacists
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Becky Winslow, PharmD & Pharmacy Student Kaitlyn Marshall re-launch the PGX for Pharmacists.
23andMe announced in August of 2020 that it has received a 510(k) clearance from the FDA that allows its direct-to-consumer personal pharmacogenetics report to guide use of two treatments without the need for confirmatory testing.
This action updates a De Novo approval granted to the consumer genomics company in late 2018. That decision allowed 23andMe to market a test for one of 33 variants across multiple genes that could impact metabolization of certain medication, but came with a handful of "special controls." Among these were labeling requirements that warned consumers not to use the product for any medication decisions without additional independent testing.
Guests:
Becky Winslow, BS, PharmD - Medical Affairs
Dr. Becky Winslow, earned both her Bachelors of Science in Biology and her doctorate in clinical pharmacy from Campbell University. She earned her Test2Learn(TM) Community-Based Pharmacogenomics Certificate, as well as, her "Train the Trainer" certification through NACDS and The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Winslow brings over 20 years experience building clinical pharmacy programs, as well as, directing pharmacy business operations in the community setting to inGENEiosu RX. She has patient facing clinical experience as a pharmacist in retail, hospital, public health, and long term care pharmacies. Dr. Winslow founded and has owned her general pharmacy consulting business for over 20 years. In the last 6 years, she has specialized in pharmacogenomics consulting.
Dr. Winslow's professional associations include being a member of the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium and The Get the Medications Right Institute.
Now recognized as a community pharmacogenomics subject matter expert, Dr. Winslow is sought after to create and present original pharmacogenomics content and to consult for pharmacogenomics industry vendors and the clients they serve.
